Marsnev
Marsnev (alias) is an Indonesian type designer and researcher based in the Netherlands. His work moves between type design, font technology, and grapholinguistics, with much of his recent work focused on multiscript typography and Indonesian scripts that remain underrepresented in digital type.
He developed a grounding in linguistics at Universitas Indonesia (ID) before completing an MA in Typeface Design at the University of Reading (UK), under the guidance of Gerry Leonidas, Fiona Ross, and Fred Smeijers. He later joined the Missing Scripts project at the Atelier National de Recherche Typographique in Nancy (FR), where he researched the typographic representation of Southern Sumatran scripts.
Besides drawing letters, Marsnev is currently a doctoral researcher at KITLV and Leiden University (NL), studying writing traditions in the Indonesian archipelago and the relationships between people, languages, and scripts. His design and research have been presented at conferences in Europe, the United States, and Indonesia.
